WORTH THE HYPE: Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation

Water based, liquid to powder foundations are a huge trend in the beauty world at the moment, they were originally reserved to high end brands, but in recent months drugstore brands have come out with their very own formulas, including Maybelline. Maybelline claim their new Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation has a “breakthrough texture that fuses with skin” and “a finish so impeccable, yet undetectable” I find this foundation is very light and liquidy, it’s almost like water and feels very silky when blended onto the skin.

The finish is matte and powder-like, but still retains the natural look of skin. If you have dry skin you will find this foundation clings onto dry patches a little, but if you use a good moisturiser and exfoliate regularly you shouldn’t have any problems. If you have oily skin you may find you need to re-powder your skin in the middle of the day as the product can tend to fade and get shiny. Maybelline claim this foundation is medium to full coverage, I would describe it as medium, but non build-able because of the matte, powder finish.

This foundation features an “exclusive dropper” which I found not only inconvenient and unpractical, but also unhygienic. The dropper made life difficult and in the end I found the easiest way to get product out was to take the dropper out and pour the foundation onto the back of my hand. Those with fair or dark skin may find it difficult to get a good match in this foundation, the shade range is poor and many of the shades lean quite orange and warm based. Overall I do really like this foundation, even on my dry skin and think it is worth the hype, but it could do with a few improvements.
